The Szechuan Impression owners must have had a good laugh when they decided on the menu: “Cinderella’s Pumpkin Rides”, “Potato Strips on Street Corner”, “Big Mouth Ginger Frog” or “Fiery Temper Goose Intestine”… Don’t feel intimidated by the abrupt staff and order with determined tone: wontons (pork dumplings, a staple), dandan noodles (warm and mildly spicy, which will feel good when the rest comes in), bamboo shoots (with a scary look), and leshan bobo chicken (served on skewers resembling a porcupine in a chili oil hot pot). For the joke, feel free to order Cinderella’s Pumpkin Rides and Potato Strips on Street Corner but you might be disappointed by the lack of taste of the former and the Shake Shack look of the latter. As with Sichuanese fellow Chengdu Taste, arrive early to avoid hour-long lines…
